Description
This is a shining gem of a walk but not for the faint hearted, nor for unathletic dogs (or ahem…humans). The distance is long but the terrain is also tough. You’ll be rewarded with one of the most beautiful and varied dog friendly walks on offer.
It’s possible to start this walk in either Cowan or in Berowra Waters, but car parking is easier in Cowan. It’s a massive shame that dogs are not allowed on public transport, because if you could take your dog on a train this walk would be ideal. The trailhead in Cowan is just across the road from Cowan station.
Expect undulating terrain for most of the walk. Steep to very steep inclines and declines. Some short sections you will need to give your doggo a boost or a lift (this often is only possible with either a patient dog or two people – BE ADVISED). Some cliffy areas or rock edges, so be careful.
Stopping for lunch and a rest in Berowra Waters is a good idea. Pippa was looking tired at the half way mark, but seemed to find her legs again after we climbed back out of Berowra Waters on one of the steepest sections. From then on she basically ran ahead. Luckliy there is water (unless it has been very dry) at the bottom of of each climb and descent for your pal to cool down and have a slurp.
The full walk will reward you if you and your pup are up for it. But otherwise at any time you can pull the cord and head home because it’s an out and back.
