Description

Head up and over the Blue Mountains for this walk on the other side of Mount Victoria. The trail as indicated on the map can start from the top of Mt York in the carpark, but we prefer to start and finish this walk from the campsite at Lockyers Track Head at Hartley Vale Road. Camping is free if you want to combine this walk with overnight camp. The campsite is pretty basic. No running water, just a drop toilet. But there are several fire pits.

The walk itself is up Mount York via bushland and access roads. The highlight is the beautiful ascent up through lush foliage if following the route clockwise starting from the camp site up onto the first plateau. The ridgeline is rocky and varied and there are some nice viewpoints along the way. Once you reach the road it’s back on lead for your furry mate until you finish up in the car park at the top of Mt York. The views are pretty nice, but the walk down the hill is nicer.

Walking down the hill you pass through rocky ledges and some semi natural stairs down to the valley bottom. From there there is a short (usually boggy section) then back onto the access roads and track to the camp site.
